PITTSBURGH (March 12, 2026) — Pittsburgh Riveters SC introduces the Riveters Classic, presented by SportsPITTSBURGH, a top-tier college showcase match pitting the women’s teams of Penn State University and West Virginia University, that will be played at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 11 at Highmark Stadium, the home of the USL W League’s Riveters.
The event brings together two of the region’s top college programs for a matchup as part of their Spring schedule, with both teams coming off advancing to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament in 2025.
The Nittany Lions have been an NCAA Tournament team every year since 1995, the past 19 under head coach Erica Dambach, and claimed the 2015 national championship, while the Mountaineers have appeared in the national tournament 24 of the past 26 seasons under head coach Nikki Izzo-Brown, reaching the final in 2016.
“The Riveters Classic is a unique opportunity to bring together two top NCAA programs in our city, where both fan bases have a strong presence,” Riveters SC President Jeff Garner said. “Last year, we witnessed the way Pittsburgh fans showed overwhelming support of women’s sports during the Riveters’ first year in the USL W League, and we believe this event will be great for both programs and a tremendous way to kick-start 2026 heading into the Riveters’ season.”
