(June 4, 2025) — The Great Forest Division is looking wide open with every team having dropped points over the past seven days, and the Riveters have a chance to move alone atop the division Thursday if they can win for a second straight match when they face the Erie Sports Center side on the road at Penn State Behrend Field. (Updated 10:30 a.m. on June 5 with corrected venue.)
Apart from the team’s 45-minute lapse in the second half at Cleveland, the Riveters have looked the part as one of the teams to beat in the division. They have outshot their opponent in all four matches thus far and share the lead for most goals scored (seven) with Steel City FC. In last Friday’s win over Flower City, the Riveters did much better striking a defensive posture with a lead in the second half to help goalkeeper Pauline Nelles pick up her second clean sheet of the season.
Alexis Tylenda has made a splash in two matches with two goals — one in each contest — and an assist to join Tanum Nelson at the team’s joint top scorers, while Olivia Damico added her name as the fifth different goal scorer for the Riveters through four matches, the first of which was a 0-0 draw.
Apart from the weeknight travel, the biggest hurdle facing the Riveters on Thursday will be playing without their captain, Tessa Dellarose. Dellarose is away this week to compete in The Soccer Tournament, the $1 million, 7v7 event held in Cary, N.C. She is the reigning MVP and a defending champion in the event with her team, US Women, where she plays alongside retired U.S. World Cup winners Ali Kriger, Heather O’Reilly and newcomer to the team Carli Lloyd.
Erie is still looking for its first win on the season, and offense has been a struggle with just two goals in their first four matches. However, both of those goals came in a 2-2 draw at Cleveland — the team that handed the Riveters their lone defeat — and Erie hasn’t been blown out in any of their losses while playing three of their first four on the road.
The 6 p.m. match will be streamed live on SportsEngine Play.
