PITTSBURGH (Feb. 25, 2025) — Pittsburgh Riveters SC has secured another decorated college player for their 2025 roster, adding Spanish midfielder Carola Fontan for the upcoming season.
Fontan, 20, just completed her junior season at the University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky, where she was a 2023 NAIA Second Team All-American while leading the Patriots to the NAIA National Championship. Also a two-time All-Mid-South Conference First Team selection in 2023 and ’24. Her roster spot is pending USL and U.S. Soccer approval once 2025 USL W League registration opens.
“We are delighted to welcome Carola to the Riveters. As a player she is technically outstanding and has the creativity and vision we look for in a player,” Riveters head coach Scott Gibson said. “She will bring a wealth of winning experience and dedication to the game that will help the team culture that we are building.”
A native of Les Franqueses del Valles, located a short distance north of Barcelona, Fontan has been a potent attacking player in her three college seasons. She averages more than a goal contribution per game with 29 goals and 26 assists in 51 matches, and 11 of her goals were game winners.
Fontan also has W League experience, appearing in every match a season ago with Lexington SC, which finished third in the Valley Division.
The Riveters season kicks off May 16 with a home match against Cleveland Force. Season tickets and group/premium tickets are available now through the Highmark Stadium Box Office at 412-865-GOAL, and online at riveterssc.com/ticket-info.
