PITTSBURGH (May 29, 2025) — This was always going to be a season of firsts for the Riveters, and when the team hosts Flower City 1872 on Friday night, they will address an undesired first — the first time bouncing back from defeat.
Only 48 hours after a second-half letdown led to a 3-2 loss to the Cleveland Force, the Riveters will have the opportunity to shake it off in their second meeting with Flower City. The Riveters won the first meeting 3-2 in Rochester, N.Y. last Saturday, with a pair of goals by Tanum Nelson and a third from Lucia Wells accounting for the scoring. The team will also be aware of the danger posed by Flower City, particularly forward Sam Cipolla, who scored both of the New Yorkers’ goals getting on the end of long balls played directly over the top.
Riveters newcomer Alexis Tylenda made an impression in her first match with the team on Wednesday, setting up Kennedy Neighbors for the opening goal before scoring one of her own in the loss to the Force. The attack again looked potent, despite the defeat, as the Riveters outshot their opponent for the third straight match. But the biggest adjustment will need to be how the team sees out matches with the lead, as all five goals conceded on the season have come in the second half of play.
The match will be televised live on SportsNet Pittsburgh+, presented by broadcast partner 84 Lumber. Re-airings of the match can be seen Sunday at 1 p.m. on SportsNet Pittsburgh and 4 p.m. on SNP+, and a live stream will be available through SportsEngine Play.
