INDIANA TOWNSHIP, Pa. (May 28, 2026) — Alexis Tylenda and Anna Korney found the net, and the Pittsburgh Riveters maintained bragging rights over their nearest foes by defeating Steel City FC, 2-0, on the road tonight at Founders Field.
Tylenda’s first-half goal was the first of the year for one of the top scorers a year ago for the Riveters (2-0-1), while 16-year-old Korney scored at Founders Field for the second straight year after becoming the youngest player to score for the club last season at age 15.
Bailey Herfurth made three saves in the Riveters goal for her second clean sheet of the season, as the Riveters shut out Steel City (1-1-0) for the first time.
First half
The territorial edge went the way of the Riveters from the outset, including six corner kicks in the opening 31 minutes, but Steel City had the first major opportunity of the match.
Maya Matesa timed a run between the Riveters defense in the ninth minute to get in on goal, but Herfurth read the play well to close down the angle and make the close-range save.
The Riveters pulled ahead in the 19th minute after Kennedy Neighbors won the ball in front of the center circle. Neighbors played a ball through on the ground to Tylenda, who took a touch into the box and shot around the goalkeeper to open the scoring.
Lola Abraham and Tylenda both had further good chances in the half that forced saves from Steel City goalkeeper Ruby Morgan, who finished the match with 10 stops.
Second half
Tanum Nelson, the team’s leading goal scorer a season ago, nearly struck in her first match with the club in 2026. Her turning shot three minutes into the half was pushed off the crossbar by Morgan and bounced away to safety.
Also making her first appearance of the season was Korney, who entered as a substitute at the 60-minute mark. It would only take 10 minutes more before she was on the scoresheet.
Korney kept pressing high up the field and caught Morgan with the ball at her feet, blocking the goalkeeper’s clearance attempt from just outside of the box. The ball drifted into the left side of the penalty, where Korney took the time to compose herself and lift a shot into the top, near corner of the net, a spot where neither of the retreating Steel City defenders could make a play on it.
Modelo Player of the Match
Alexis Tylenda spearheaded an attack that was looking for goal early and often. The opening goal was one of five shots — three on target — by Tylenda, who also led an active press and won a pair of free kicks in good positions.
What’s next?
The Riveters move on for the middle match of a three-game road swing when they travel to face the Cleveland Force at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 3. The Force (1-1-0) defeated Erie, 3-1, last night and hosts Steel City on Sunday before the Riveters come to town.
