PITTSBURGH (June 5, 2026) — This weekend marks the midpoint of the USL W League season, but Saturday could go a long way toward determining the outcome in the Great Forest Division when the Riveters visit Flower City 1872 for an afternoon rematch in Rochester, N.Y.
The teams’ first meeting of the season culminated with probably the most memorable finish in the Riveters’ short history, as goalkeeper Bailey Herfurth scored a stoppage-time equalizer to cap an exciting 3-3 draw. As a result, both teams enter the match undefeated with the Riveters trailing by a point but holding a match in hand.
Through four matches, Flower City is the only team to have scored against the Riveters, who are coming off back-to-back shutout wins on the road over Steel City FC and Cleveland Force. A defensive clampdown would likely go a long way toward grabbing three points on the road, as the Riveters have scored multiple goals in every match thus far, led by three from center back Taylor Green and two each by forward Alexis Tylenda and Lola Abraham, a trio that all found the net Wednesday at Cleveland.
Flower City, meanwhile, is also coming off a midweek win by a 4-2 score over FC Buffalo. Eva Poissant was one of the four goal scorers for Flower City in the match, giving her a division-leading four goals, and the Rochester side has had eight different goal scorers through five matches, one short of the nine players who have scored thus far for the Riveters. But without a clean sheet to Flower City’s name this season, the Riveters are likely to be hunting goals just as much as they defend, setting up the potential for another high-scoring contest.
The 3 p.m. start also adds a different factor to the match. This is the only afternoon match on the Riveters’ 2026 schedule, though the potential of rain in upstate New York starting in the morning could bring down temperatures that have consistently been in the mid-80s this week.
