PITTSBURGH (June 23, 2026) — The Great Forest Division title is locked up, but there are still goals to be played for when the Riveters play their final road match of the regular season Wednesday night at FC Buffalo.
The Riveters’ most tangible goal to play for is seeding in the USL W League Playoffs that begin July 3. A win or a draw would ensure the Riveters finish with no worse than the second-best points per game total in the Central Conference, and the most likely resulting scenario is defending Central champion Minnesota Aurora (10-0-0 with two matches to play) being the No. 1 seed and the Riveters holding the No. 2 spot.
But the Riveters also have incentive to play to win over the final two matches to keep their 15-match unbeaten run in the division intact, while also getting valuable minutes for some players and needed rest for others to prepare for the playoffs. And with a trip to Buffalo, where the team needed a late Minah Syam goal to salvage a crucial 1-1 draw a season ago, head coach Scott Gibson has warned his team of complacency.
Buffalo comes into the match riding high with three straight wins, the most recent being a 7-2 drubbing of Erie last Saturday. Ava Plezia and Paige Szymanski each scored twice in the win, and for Plezia, it was her second straight brace after doubling up in a 4-2 win over Cleveland. The recent win streak has made Buffalo the second-highest scoring team in the division with 19 goals, posing a challenge to a Riveters team that saw its run without allowing a goal end after 503 minutes on Sunday in a 3-1 win over Cleveland.
The Riveters are the top-scoring team with 24 goals on the year, and they’ve done it with 13 different goal scorers. Sabrina Bryan leads that group with four goals, while Alexis Tylenda and Taylor Green are just behind her with three apiece. The defensive record is even more impressive at just four goals allowed through eight matches, meaning Wednesday’s contest is a battle of strength-on-strength in the Riveters’ defensive half.
The road match will not be televised, but the free, live stream of the action will be live on SportsEngine Play.
